The Georgia Open Records Act A new step in Public Record Search

The state of Georgia has taken that extra step of making all public records available to the residents of Georgia (except for some who are kept strictly confidential by law) in the form of the Georgia Open Record Act.

This act also gives that data holders 3 business days to determine if the information requested for is accessible under this law and and to verify and produce such records. If records do exist but are not available in three days prior to the request, a written description of such records and deadline should be set for the submission of such data within the three day period. This is done provided that the data requested is not in any way prohibited by law from public disclosure.

Requests for public records should be addressed to the City Clerk’s Office except for routine requests from the local police department or from the municipal court
