Case Story

Plans For A Quiet Friday At Home

On the night of February 24, 2006, Clara Plinio was in her Hillside, N.J. home, watching T.V. with her children and waiting for her husband Richard to return from his Friday night bowling league game. She'd asked him to stop at the store for a few items on his way home -- then they'd relax and spend a nice night together. But those plans were dashed when Clara heard two loud explosions outside. She ran to the window in their family room -- and was horrified by what she saw.

Deadly Drive-by Shooting

Lying on their lawn near the driveway was her husband, trying to crawl toward the house. Clara says he was trying to speak, but couldn't manage to get any words out. Clara frantically called the police -- and when they arrived, they told her Richard had been shot twice. Richard was transported to University Hospital, but died from his wounds while in surgery. Cops say Richard had clearly been murdered -- but they didn't know why. He had no known enemies, and lived a normal lifestyle. Police interviewed witnesses who were at the crime scene, hoping they'd have some good information.

Witnesses Give Police Details

It turns out, they did. Cops say two men who were at the crime scene when police arrived were right down the road from the Plinio's house when saw a dark-colored Acura TL with tinted windows pass by. Then, they say they heard two loud pops -- and shortly after, a light skinned black man wearing dark clothing ran toward them. The witnesses say they got their closest look at him as he ran under a street light, and it was then that they saw he was carrying a black revolver handgun. Other witnesses who were out that night also described a dark colored black Acura TL driving by and slowing down outside of the Plinio's house. Cops say one of those witnesses agreed to give them a description for a composite sketch. Police have had several leads since Richard Plinio's murder, but none of panned out for them. Now, they are hoping someone recognizes the composite sketch of their suspect, or the vehicle spotted at the crime scene, and turns in the person or persons responsible for Richard's brutal killing.
