Case Story

Wanted: Fugitive from Hawaiian Paradise

In the summer of 1998, the DEA discovered that large quantities of Crystal Meth was being transported from California to Hawaii.  In an attempt to discover who on the islands was receiving and selling the dope, a sting operation was set up.  DEA agents were hoping to nab one of the area's most infamous accused drug distributors, Reinier Kraan.  The deal went down on July 31, 1998, but it didn't go as planned. While conducting a drug buy sting, police officers attempted to stop Kraan, the driver of a van, in the parking lot of a shopping mall. With everything in place to take him down, officials thought they had it made, until something tipped off Kraan. Police say, after the drug transaction occurred, Kraan immediately took off and a high speed chase ensued. Agents say Kraan kicked his passenger out of the vehicle and sped against traffic at speeds up to 100 mph. Finally, police had to break off the chase and Kraan got away. Agents say that after Kraan escaped, he began to distribute the kilo of meth he had gotten away with.

Cops Find Gun Stash

Following the high speed chase, a search warrant was issued for the home of Reinier Kraan. Once inside, the police uncovered numerous weapons, C-4 explosives and detonators. A warrant was issued for Kraan's arrest based on the fact that Kraan is a convicted felon, convicted in a state court, which then prohibited Kraan from owning and/or possessing weapons, ammunition and explosives. With his own small arsenal and wide variety of weapons, Kraan is considered armed and dangerous.
