Case Story

Handyman Accused Of Double Murder

Peter Hommerson, also known as \"Lajos Ferenczi,\" was wanted by authorities for the brutal murder of a wealthy couple, Kitty and Marvin Lichtman on Jan. 23, 1996. The Lichtmans lived in the exclusive Chicago neighborhood of Barrington Hills, and police say Hommerson worked around their mansion as a handyman. Authorities say Hommerson shot and killed Kitty Lichtman at close range, and spent several hours after that loading valuables into his van while he waited for Marvin Lichtman to come back home. Marvin Lichtman was ambushed and died with the mail still in his hands. Authorities say Hommerson then set the mansion on fire to cover his tracks. Police have not been able to recover any of the possible two million dollars worth of valuables removed from the Lichtman mansion. Authorities believe Hommerson's wife drove him to Laredo, Texas, where he kissed her goodbye forever and crossed the border into Mexico. Hommerson was finally captured on Aug. 10, 2005 after AMW viewers helped police track him down to Ixtapa, Mexico.
