Tennessee Cops: Sex Offender Fails To Show

Stewart County Police in Dover, Tenn. and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is searching for 42-year-old Mark Alan Earhart.  Police say on April 7, 2004, Earhart sexually assaulted a child under the age of 13.  On March 4, 2005, Earhart was scheduled to appear before a judge to answer to the Sexual Battery charge, but didn't show up for the hearing. A warrant was issued for his arrest on March 28, 2005. Court papers also show on January 25, 2005,  Earhart was convicted  in New Hampshire for sexually assaulting a minor.  Police say sometime after his conviction, Earhart returned to the state of Tennessee. According to Tennessee law, a person convicted of a sexual offense in any state has 48 hours  after setting up permanent residence in Tennessee to register that address with the sexual offenders registry. Police say Earhart failed to do so, and a warrant for his arrest was also issued for violating the state's sex offender registry laws.

Through an investigation police have learned that Earhart has recently lived in the states of Illinois and New Hampshire He has experience working on barges and tug boats. Earhart is originally from Dover, Tenn. and still has friends and family in the area. Police say Earhart has many tattoos. He has tattoos up and down his left arm, specifically a tattoo of barbed wire around his left wrist.
