Case Story
A Birthday Death Threat
When Marcus Head and his wife Sebrina moved to Birmingham from Indiana, they thought life would be better for them. They were moving close to Sebrina's family and they had purchased a nice house. As time went by, it became clear, however, that life was not going well for the Heads. Friends say that Marcus was physically abusing Sebrina, although there was no criminal action taken. Finally, Sebrina had enough and moved out of the house. She started separation procedures and demanded Marcus leave the house. He eventually did, but cops say it wasn't without giving Sebrina grief. He refused to let things end. Police say he frequently called Sebrina and threatened to kill her if she didn't come back to him. By mid-September 2001, the situation had become desperate. Cops say Marcus was becoming more specific with his threats. So when an enraged Marcus called Sebrina just days before her birthday - threatening that he was coming down to kill her on October 1st, her birthday, Sebrina took the threat seriously. Cops say she enlisted the help of her boyfriend Derrick Charles to check the house every night for signs of Head.
Head Makes Good On Threat
Late on the night before her birthday, September 30th, Sebrina, Derrick and another couple celebrated with a night out on the town. While they were gone, investigators say that Head removed an air conditioning unit and broke into Sebrina's house through a window. He hid himself in a guest bedroom closet. Sebrina, Derrick and the other couple arrived home late and went to bed. Sebrina and Derrick slept in her bedroom while the other couple stayed in the guest room. Cops say Head laid in wait until 4:00 a.m., then burst out of the guest room closet. Cops say he stormed past the couple and into Sebrina's room where she and Derrick were sleeping. Cops say within seconds Head pulled a gun and shot Derrick multiple times - killing him. Cops say then Head turned the gun on his estranged wife and shot twice. One of the bullets grazed her face. Cops say he tried to fire again, but the gun jammed. He allegedly then grabbed a sharp object--possibly scissors-- and stabbed Sebrina 19 times. Nauseated at the sight of blood, cops say Head took off. Thankfully, Sebrina survived. Marcus Head has not been seen since. Police believe he could have headed back to Indiana, where he and Sebrina had originally lived. They say he also has ties to California and Florida. Wherever he is, police believe he may be much thinner, a svelte 180 pounds-- down from 250.
