Case Story
Deadly Mistake
Jennifer Stahl was a beautiful aspiring actress in New York. She'd had some small parts in movies, but jobs were hard to come by. So, police say she supplemented her income by selling marijuana to her Broadway pals. But, it was a deadly mistake. On the night of May 10th, 2001, surveillance cameras caught two men as they headed up the stairs to Jennifer's apartment.
Famous Landmark Sight Of Deadly Shooting
Police believe the two men went to the apartment in hopes of scoring a large sum of money and dope. But, they were surprised by the number of people there. In fact, there were five people in Jennifer's apartment and all were shot during the botched robbery. Three of the victims died, including Jennifer. The massacre that ended the lives of Charles Helliwell, Steven King and Jennifer Stahl occurred in the heart of Manhattan above the world famous Carnegie Deli.
Turning Up The Heat
Based on the surveillance tape and other information, police immediately began an intensive manhunt for two suspects: Andre Smith and Sean Salley. After the shootings, police say Smith and Salley fled Manhattan. They drove across the river to New Jersey where they divied up the money and pot. While Smith stayed in New Jersey, Salley hid out overnight in a cheap hotel then boarded a Greyhound bus in Newark and headed for New Orleans. Cops in New Orleans came within minutes of nabbing Salley as he went to pick up a wire transfer of money. Back in New York, the heat was too much for Andre Smith. He turned himself in to police and spilled his guts about the vicious shootings. But, his alleged accomplice, Sean Salley, is still on the run.
