Case Story

Did \"Mr. Right\" Turn Out To Be Very Wrong?

Police say in 1995, John Feiga and Erica Richardson met and began dating. Family members say that Feiga eventually moved into Erica's new home in the Tampa, Fla. suburb of Valrico, and Erica's family and friends say Feiga showered Erica with flowers, love notes and gifts.  Erica's mother, Imogene Richardson, was very close to her daughter; Erica meant everything to her. Imogene says that her daughter was a brilliant student with three degrees from three different colleges. Imogene says her daughter was a nice girl, and her boyfriend Feiga was a nice guy.  "I think she really cared a lot for him. I think she thought that this was Mr. Right," she said.

A Gruesome Murder Scene

Now, Imogene thinks her daughter was dead wrong.  She says that Erica began to tell her stories about Feiga: how he was controlling and jealous. Erica's friends said that Feiga went from slapping her to holding her hostage at gunpoint in her own house. Police say Erica eventually got a restraining order against him. On December 8, 1997, six days after the restraining order expired, Erica failed to show up for work at the Valrico Wal-Mart Pharmacy. Family members were called to her house, but it was too late: police found Erica's body in the hallway next to the kitchen. Police say she had been stabbed 62 times. They believe that Feiga was the last one to see her alive, but he was nowhere to be found. Erica's car was missing, but police found it two weeks later in Lafayette, La., about 60 miles from New Orleans. But there was no sign of Feiga, who police charged with Grand Theft Auto. Lieutenant John Marsicano says they also want to question him about Erica's murder. "I won't call him a suspect. I will say we need to talk to him.  We need to get an explanation from him as to what occurred. Feiga's got some answers and he's got some pieces to this puzzle." But they wouldn't get the chance.
