Case Story

Amateur Boxer Fatally Shot

Jamie Eugene Edwards is wanted by the Stamford, Connecticut Police Department for the murder of twenty-one-year-old Benjamin Perez. Police say Perez had become a thorn in the side of Edwards and other drug dealers in the south end section of Stamford. Perez was very anti-drug and waged a one-man crusade to rid the streets of drug dealers.

Police say on the night of February 4, 1995, Perez was driving to his cousin's house when he encountered Edwards on a corner with other dealers and confronted them. According to officials, Edwards allegedly fired 11 shots from a semi-automatic 9mm handgun into Perez's vehicle striking him numerous times. Benjamin Perez was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a husband, the father of two young children, and an up-and-coming amateur boxer who would have made his professional debut exactly one month to the day after he was murdered. Unfortunately, his life was ended too quickly.
