Case Story

Wanted Deadbeat Dad

The Vanderpoll resettled their family from British Columbia, Canada to Ohio in the late 1990s.  But family bliss wouldn't last for long.  Eric G. Vanderpoll, husband and father of two, simply walked out from his family and became a deadbeat dad.  Soon afterwards Eric's wife began divorce proceedings.  But cops say Eric wasn't fulfilling his fatherly duties.  He wasn't paying any child support.  And according to the District Attorney's office, he cut off communication with his children, during their prime teenage years.  After years of Eric not paying anything to help with the kids, detectives realized just how much money Eric owed ... $133,935.77 for his two kids.  Officials say he wasn't paying any of it.

Still Wanted By Cops

Cops issued a warrant for his arrest and immediately tracked him down.  Eric was living back in British Columbia ... with a new wife and daughter.  Cops arrested him and brought him back to the United States.  He was sentenced to ten months in prison.  But this sentence would be suspended if Vanderpoll obliged to certain probation conditions.  Eric agreed that he would follow them ... but never did.  While the prosecutor's office says that he has since made \"sporadic payments,\" he still owes $126,380.80.  And he isn't following the conditions of his probation either.  Officials think that Vanderpoll is still in British Columbia, Canada with his new wife.
