Case Story

Escaping The Past Is Never As Easy As It Seems

When Mike Jordan and his wife Kimberly began their day on January 21, 2004, they were living the life they had worked so hard for.  They had moved away from their old neighborhood in a rough part of Detroit, and were enjoying their new life together.  Mike, however, couldn't just forget about where he came from.  His mother still lived in his old neighborhood and he would make regular trips to visit her.  His devotion was undying and Mike would do whatever was necessary to help his mother out.  So, on this day, just like they had done many times before, Mike and Kim took a trip to see his mom and check in on her. 

Lives, Changed Forever

After the couple's visit with his mother and after making sure she was doing just fine, Mike wanted to tie up some loose ends with a guy he knew in the area.  Mike wanted to pay him for shoveling snow from his mother's driveway.  

The Tragic End Of A Promising Life

When Mike got inside the home of the local guy, he encountered someone other than the man he wanted to see.  Cops say Desmond Shaw, a.k.a. \"Black\", was also in the home, having dropped in to visit on two pit bulls he was keeping there.  Cops say Shaw had ill feelings toward Mike because he felt like Mike thought he was too good for the old neighborhood.  Police say Shaw was also agitated with Mike because they had had an argument about some salt that had been left in Shaw's truck.  The two men exchanged words, and cops say Shaw was dead set on having a fight.  Mike, an unwilling participant, made his way outside and that's where he met his fate.  Before even one punch was thrown, cops say Shaw pulled out a gun and shot Mike several times, killing him right in front of his wife who was waiting outside.
