Case Story

Last Suspect In Deadly Kidnapping On The Loose

On March 12, 2000 Kyle Nathan McElroy was kidnapped in Troup, Texas. McElroy was the son of a small factory owner. The kidnappers made a ransom call to Kyle's parents demanding $200,000. Unbeknownst to the family, however, the kidnappers had already tortured and killed Kyle before the call was made. One day later, Kyle McElroy's body was found in rural Cherokee County Texas. The investigation led to the arrest of three men: Daniel Rios, Ernesto Bailon and Alfredo Romero. Investigators believe that Rios had been an employee at McElroy Plastics and had worked with Kyle McElroy. One suspect remains on the run, Desiree Dawn Lingo-Perkins. Investigators say she is a known prostitute who police consider an active participant in Kyle's murder. Investigators say she was responsible for making the ransom calls to the McElroy family. Lingo-Perkins is known to have family in Beaumont, Texas and Barling, Arkansas. She also has a child residing in Connecticut. Investigators say she has supported herself for years as a prostitute in the Latin American immigrant community. It is believed that her familiarity with this community may lead her to escape to Mexico. Agents believe that she may have lost weight and dyed her hair black.
